Chowdery caught in rat controversy shutting down

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — It looks like the Crab Park Chowdery, the Gastown business that was caught up in a controversy over the allegation of a rat in a bowl of soup, is closing down.

A post on their Instagram page says their last day will be on Sunday the 20th.

A portion of the post reads, ‘We know that with our heads held high, and a ‘can do’ attitude the next chapter will be an even better one.’

Last week, the Chowdery revealed it was in “financial turmoil” due to the negative publicity, and said its profits had plunged from between $1,500-$2,000 a day down to $200-$400 a day.

A last-ditch GoFundMe page was launched to try and keep the business alive, but from January 4th to 16th, only $2,265 of the company’s $10,000 target had been raised.

NEWS 1130 has reached out to the restaurant for confirmation.
