Surrey RCMP kicking up patrols near schools following recent reported assaults

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – Tell someone when you leave and when you expect to be home: that’s the warning from the Surrey RCMP after two girls were reportedly assaulted in separate incidents.

In an incident on Wednesday, a girl was walking near Bel Air Park on 157 Street around 4:15 p.m. when she was apparently grabbed by the shoulder. She was able to hit the suspect and get away, Mounties say.

The suspect is being described as Caucasian and was wearing a black hoodie, grey sweatpants, and black running shoes.

This follows another reported assault last week, when a man is said to have thrown a 10-year-old girl to the ground and exposed himself to her before running away.

The RCMP says it is ramping up patrols, but adds it’s still unclear if Wednesday’s assault is related to any other incidents.
