Dine Out Vancouver: exploring the Lower Mainland culinary scene

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – You may still be paying off some holiday bills, but that doesn’t mean restaurants in the Lower Mainland wouldn’t still love to have you.

Dine Out Vancouver — which starts today — will run for just more than two weeks, until February 3rd.

If you haven’t taken part in it before, here’s the scoop: restaurants from all over the Lower Mainland have specialized menus at set prices — cost efficient, of course.

“We certainly have 300 different restaurants that are participating,” Lucas Pavan with Dine Out Vancouver says. “Our price points are different; we’ve increased them to four categories. So we have $15, $25, $35, and $45. Some restaurants are offering brunch and lunch menus, which is new.”

The festival helps bring more people through the doors during what is typically a slow time of year for the industry. Pavan says it also gives people a chance to try something new, and sometimes they’ll find something that sticks.

“Anecdotally, restaurants tell me yes. They say that the festival generates opportunities for diners to try out new restaurants and create new favourites — and restaurants do tell us that they do see returning customers as a result of the festival,” Pavan tells NEWS 1130.

“Over the last 17 years, certainly Vancouver is very different than it was in 2002. So it’s really more about celebrating the best of Vancouver’s culinary scene.”
