Police watchdog investigating after man injured in attempted arrest in Kelowna

KELOWNA – British Columbia’s police watchdog is investigating after police fired shots and a man was taken to hospital following an arrest attempt by officers in Kelowna.

The Independent Investigations Office says Mounties in plain clothes and officers from the Southeastern District Emergency Response Team tried to arrest a man Wednesday afternoon.

It says police fired shots and the man was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries that are believed to be non-life-threatening.

Kelowna RCMP are investigating the incidents that led to the need for the arrest, which the IIO says occurred near a banking institution.

The IIO says it’s investigating to determine whether police actions are linked to the man’s injuries.

It says no further information will be released by police.
