SURREY (NEWS 1130) – The RCMP in Surrey are calling a phony police report a huge strain on police resources after a massive police response in a Newton neighborhood the morning of Jan. 29.
Police got a call saying a “serious incident” was unfolding at a home but after arriving on scene, blocking traffic, and detaining 11 people, they found out it was bogus.
Corporal Elenore Sturko with the Surrey RCMP says the incident created significant traffic problems.
“It was a lot of resources that were deployed to that,” she says, “This is something that we do take very seriously and we are continuing our investigation.”
She says the detained people were quickly released.
Sturko adds part of the ongoing investigation is finding out who made that phone call.
