‘I have faith in police’: Many Surrey commuters calm, despite suspect in officer shooting on the loose

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – The manhunt continues for the suspect in the shooting of a Transit Police officer.

The man believed to be responsible for the shooting has a violent history and is still considered armed and dangerous. There is a Canada-wide warrant out for the arrest of 35-year-old Daon Gordon Glasgow.

Glasgow is believed to be the man who shot the officer at the Scott Road SkyTrain station at around 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

His criminal past includes the killing of a man in Surrey, for which he pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Early-morning commuters at the SkyTrain station are very much aware of what happened on Wednesday. Many of them are still feeling nervous.

But some others aren’t feeling the apprehension.

“I have faith in our police force,” one man told NEWS 1130. “I mean, I know he’s still at large but I’m sure they’ll catch him, eventually. They know his name, they’ve got his picture out there. It’s only a matter of time.”

“I don’t feel like he’d ever come around this area again — knowing the police presence — after the fact,” said another.

“Knowing that he’s around actually doesn’t bother me all that much,” another commuter said. “It was pretty random, I think. It’s not going to change my routine all that much.”

Glasgow is described as 5’5″ tall and 170 lbs with dark skin and brown eyes. At the time of the shooting, he had black stubble and a moustache. However, RCMP say he is known to quickly change his appearance.

He was last seen wearing a blue hoodie and white Nike runners.

Back in 2010, Glasgow shot and killed a man at the McDonald’s near 100 Ave. and Scott Rd. — not far from the scene of Wednesday’s shooting. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison (minus time served) and given a lifetime ban from owning weapons.

He has been known to use the aliases Darrel James Davis and Cornell Gibson.

Mounties say Glasgow may still be in the area near the Scott Road SkyTrain Station, but admit he may be trying to leave B.C. to avoid being arrested.

The Transit Police officer who was shot, Cst. Josh Harms, was seriously hurt on Wednesday. He was released from the hospital Wednesday night.
