Hwy 1 re-opened in Abbotsford after multiple-vehicle crash, roads hit with snow

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) — Highway 1 has now been re-opened outside Abbotsford near Whatcom Road after it was closed for several hours because of a crash that involved at least 10 vehicles.

Seven ambulances were called out, and two people were injured in the crash and sent to the hospital in stable condition, according to BC Emergency Health Services.

Drivers were seeing near white-out conditions as snow covers the roads. Police asked drivers to avoid the area right now around Whatcom Road.

Louie Kohani  with Environment Canada says Abbotsford is expected to get the worst of the snow in Metro Vancouver today, with between 5 and 10 centimeters predicted, as well as blowing snow.

A snowfall warning for Abbotsford has now ended, but an arctic outflow warning in the Fraser Valley – including Abbotsford — is stil in effect.
