BC Place to be renamed

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – BC Place could soon be called something else.

The provincial government has given the operator, PavCo, the green light to sell the naming rights, and PavCo has started soliciting companies who would like to see their name on the building.

PavCo says it’s an opportunity to bring in private investment that could offset the operating costs of the stadium, and those funds could be put toward other government priorities.

In a press release, PavCo says they will manage the process in consultation and with approvals from the province.

In 2012, the former provincial Liberal government put a stop to a sponsor deal to rename BC Place “Telus Park.”

The stadium, home of the BC Lions and Vancouver Whitecaps FC, has been open since 1983.
