Cold spell, snow welcomed by local mountains

NORTH SHORE (NEWS 1130) – The cold blast of winter we’ve been in is being warmly welcomed by staff on the North Shore mountains.

Simon Whitehead with Mount Seymour says about 15 centimetres came down on Sunday. He says the amount of snow there is about average for this time of year.

“For the next 10 days it looks like we’ve got a very cold spell with great subtle weather so it’s going to be sunset laps overlooking the city, blue bird days, and we’ve got some snow coming in just in time for the weekend.”

Meantime on Grouse Mountain, Julia Grant says there is about an extra six centimetres there.

“It added a little bit of fresh snow and it stayed cold as we’re having this cold snap. Skiiers and riders can enjoy the great blue skies, good machine-groomed soft-packed conditions out on the slopes, and we’ll just keep adding to it with snow making.”

Grant says this season has been fairly typical, and adds work will continue so people can enjoy the rest of the season.

“We’re adding to it with our snow making. Cold temperatures are always good, keeping the snow nice and fresh on the mountains, so I think we’re — at this point — in good shape and we’ll see what mother nature brings us.”
