Surrey RCMP appeals for witnesses in pedestrian-involved crash to come forward

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – The RCMP needs your help after a 40-year-old man was hit by a car in Surrey last month.

Mounties say the pedestrian was crossing Old Yale Road near the shopping mall access road when he was hit around 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 29.

He was not in a marked cross-walk, the RCMP says, and was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The pedestrian was hit by a Honda Civic, and the driver involved stayed at the scene and cooperated with police.

Speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in this collision, and Mounties say there’s no indication distracted driving was involved either.

“Just with all serious collisions, especially involving pedestrians, we’re just looking for any other witnesses who may have witnessed the occurrence that haven’t spoken with police and then dashcam video which has now become more prevalent in our community,” Sgt. Chad Greig with the Surrey RCMP said. “If anybody has dashcam video of the occurrence, to contact Surrey RCMP.”

Anyone with information can contact the Surrey RCMP at 604.599.0502 or Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous at 1.800.222.8477.
