Winnipeg pilot project has taxi users pre-pay fares

By

WINNIPEG (CP) – A planned pilot project in Winnipeg would force taxi passengers to pre-pay minimum amounts for late night and overnight trips.

The Winnipeg Parking Authority says the pilot project is set to begin this spring in an effort to end fare disputes that can turn violent.

It also says pre-payment of fares could reduce situations where people feel they’re being discriminated against when asked for money upfront.

The pilot will look at payment methods including cash, debit and a pre-authorized credit card and could include all cabs.
