Vancouver Art Gallery strike ends

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – After nearly a week on strike, workers at the Vancouver Art Gallery are going back to work.

A strike at the gallery has come to an end with negotiators reaching a tentative agreement after meeting with a mediator this weekend.

The 200 unionized employees, represented by CUPE 15, took a ratification vote on Monday, Feb. 11 and voted in favour of the new, four year collective agreement.

Employees had previously been without a collective agreement since July of 2017.

The union had said previous wage proposals by the employer failed to keep up with inflation, and fell “far short of addressing the cost of living challenges” the workers have to deal with.

But according to the Art Gallery, unionized employees have actually seen their benefits improved.

The workers had been on strike Tuesday, Feb. 5.
