Man dies after being hit by van in Maple Ridge

MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS 1130) – A pedestrian has died in Maple Ridge.

Mounties say the man was struck around 7 a.m. at 228th Street, just before Dewdney Trunk Road.

“There was an 85-year-old gentleman who was walking in the roadway, southbound, and was struck by a sprinter van, a cubed type of van, that was travelling the same direction as he was walking and tragically the man did not survive,” says Ridge Meadows RCMP Sergeant Brenda Gresiuk.

She says the driver did stay on scene and is cooperating with investigators.

“It’s very early in the investigation but it’s obvious with this heavy snowfall, the road conditions and weather, and the lighting, those are all going to be factors that will be considered. We have ruled out speed or alcohol.”

Mounties are looking to see if the pedestrian had any underlying medical issues that contributed to his death.
