Woman found safe following kidnapping in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS (NEWS 1130) – A woman was found safe on Friday after police say she was kidnapped following a robbery in Kamloops.

RCMP say the woman and two men were robbed this Thursday by two suspects with guns in downtown Kamloops. After the robbery, police believe the men stole one of the victim’s vehicles and took the woman.

The investigation led officers to an address in Kelowna where they found one of the robbery suspects.

Police then determined that the woman was being transported in a vehicle travelling from Kelowna to Kamloops. Police stopped the vehicle and found the kidnapped woman and arrested a man and a woman.

“First and foremost, our concern was for the woman who had been kidnapped,” said Cpl. Jodi Shelkie in a release. “The danger that she was in cannot be overemphasized. Officers knew that the suspects were armed.  It was unknown what their intent was regarding her life.”

RCMP say the investigation is still ongoing. Police are trying to locate the second suspect involved in the robbery.

“It is clear this was a targeted crime and involved participants in the local Kamloops drug trade,” RCMP wrote in a release.
