60-year-old man dead in Surrey homicide investigation

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – Police tape surrounds the back area of an apartment complex in Surrey’s Whalley neighbourhood, where investigators have been called in for the city’s latest homicide.

Surrey RCMP say they were called to the 13300 block of 105 Avenue in on Feb. 17 around 2:15 pm for reports of an assault.

An unconscious 60-year-old man was taken to hospital and later died. Police say his injuries indicate foul play.

A nearby dumpster is also surrounded by police tape, while a blue tarp is up covering a window in the apartment complex.

A man who lives in the complex says the incident was a stabbing, something that hasn’t been confirmed by police.

Craig Leitner says he was working on his truck on Sunday when he heard the sirens.

“Three officers rolled in and began immediately spreading out in different directions, searching the property and asking if I had seen anyone running,” he told NEWS 1130. “Then they converged on a suite – I heard later somebody had been stabbed.”
