Abbotsford ‘N’ driver gets dad’s van impounded for going 86km/h over limit

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) – A 19-year-old got his dad’s van impounded after police in Abbotsford caught him going 86km/h over the speeding limit.

While out doing speed enforcement Thursday morning, Abbotsford police pulled over the “N” driver after going 136km/h in a 50km/h zone.

Sgt. Judy Bird says the driver was issued a speeding ticket, but adds it’s not the first time the teenager has gotten into trouble behind the wheel.

“When checking his driver’s history, we do see that he does have previous driver’s history as well as the fact there was a message from the Driver’s Branch for this driver to also be issued a five-month prohibition,” Bird adds.

She says the car, which was impounded, turned out to be his dad’s.

“We do notice that once you start getting prohibitions that you’re under very close scrutiny by the BC Driver’s Licence Branch. And it can be quite a slippery slope for some drivers.”

Bird says the driver is now on the hook for the towing and impound fee which can be as much as $500.

If caught driving while prohibited Bird says the driver could be arrested.
