Emotional support for Delta school following double stabbing

DELTA (NEWS 1130) — Delta Police hope their trauma K-9 “Caber” will help students and staff process this week’s double stabbing at Immaculate Conception school.

Counsellors and victim services have also been offering support as children go back to school Friday after a day off on Thursday.

Delta Police Chief Neil Dubord says “Caber,” the department’s specially trained yellow Labrador retriever, is always great help.

“Caber is always wonderful for the kids just to be able to have a nice entry back into the school,” Dubord adds.

Dubord says Acting Sergeant John Jasmins — who was off-duty when he got stabbed — will likely be released from the hospital early next week and could be back on the job in about a month.

“Will do a re-integration program with him and just you know make sure he’s comfortable and he’s been out to see someone,” he says. “Any assistance that he needs psychologically we’re there to help him.”

The woman who was also stabbed — a 41-year-old from Delta — is still in serious condition but police say her condition is improving.

The suspect has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of assault with a weapon.
