BC Ferries earnings lower than last year

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – BC Ferries says its earnings were lower this year than last because of its reduction in fares, added sailings and costs connected to bringing the Spirit of British Columbia back in service.

Ferries third-quarter results show net earnings so far were $93.2 million, $7.7 million lower than the same period last year.

The government imposed a freeze on fares last April and brought back free senior passenger fares on trips from Monday to Thursday.

BC Ferries says it delivered over 42,000 sailings in the three months ended December 31st.
