VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A performance group from Chicago is in Vancouver with a unique show for Black History Month.

No Blue Memories: The Life of Gwendolyn Brooks celebrates the 1950 Pulitzer Prize-winning poet, who was the African-American to win the award.

Wendy Atkinson with the Chan Centre, where the show is taking place, describes the multi-media performance.

“The group that’s doing this show, they’re called Manual Cinema and they do shadow puppets,” she says. “It’s sort of a unique, high-tech low-tech combination. They use old school overhead projectors and they have live actors who are moving in the screen.”

The show is part of the Chan Centre’s Beyond Words series. More information and a list of upcoming events is available on their website.
