Spring could be worth the wait this year

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – After a rather wicked winter around the Lower Mainland, what are we in for this spring?

NEWS 1130 Meteorologist Russ Lacate says there is something to look forward to when the new season arrives.

“It seems a bit early to be talking about spring, but on the heels of what has been an incredible stretch of cold, snowy weather here in February, March also begins rather chilly. The temperature eventually rebounds to near-normal before the start of spring. The long-range projections are on track for a warmer-than-normal season on the west coast, ” Russ said.

He adds precipitation totals are also trending below average.

“Keep in mind, a rapid warm-up in spring could lead to an accelerated snowmelt on the mountains and potentially higher river and streamflows in the months ahead.
