Vancouver outlines plan to better protect renters, encourage home development

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Vancouver has outlined the next steps to create additional protections for renters and encourage the development of new rental homes.
Among the new steps is a pilot program involving recently sold rental buildings, when a permit application is submitted to the city with plans to develop the building.

The city says in these cases, staff will send renters facing eviction their tenancy rights by mail.
The city also says it’s looking at ways to ensure ageing rental stock is properly maintained, including financial incentives or grants, development easements and regulatory options
