Major traffic delays expected on Lougheed as FortisBC begins gas line upgrades

BURNABY (NEWS 1130) — Heads up if you take Lougheed Highway in Burnaby on your daily commute.

Starting this weekend, gas line upgrades are going to cause some major headaches for drivers on Lougheed Highway. There will be lane closures from Kensington to Bainbridge starting tomorrow, with gas line upgrades expected to go on seven days a week into the summer.

During construction, some lanes will be closed off periodically.

Grace Pickell with FortisBC admits it may cause some problems.

“It will cause some disruptions in peoples’ day-to-day commutes, and we have held two open houses in Coquitlam and Burnaby. Indeed, the daily commute was their top concern,” she says.

Pickell says drivers should plan their commute to deal with the expected delays.

“We recommend that people get the most up-to-date information about where we’re going to be working and when, and to plan a little bit of extra time in their commute in the morning,” she says.
