Ontario crash sends 3 to hospital, including 13-year-old driver

OAKVILLE (NEWS 1130) – Three teenage boys, including a 13-year-old, are in hospital after a collision in Oakville, Ontario.

Police say an SUV lost control and crashed through a chain-link fence before it struck a concrete median just before 5 a.m. local time.

Two passengers of the vehicle were injured in the crash. A 14-year-old was transported to a Hamilton trauma centre with critical injuries while another 16-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries but is listed in stable condition.

The 13-year-old driver suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Detective Constable Oliver Caves says the 13-year-old’s parents own the vehicle, but police are still working out how he knew the passengers.

“How they know each other, are they related, and then where they were, so what lead up to the accident occurring, so where were they prior to, and where were they going basically,” he says.

Speed and inexperience are believed to be contributing factors in the crash.

Caves says no charges have been laid, but police are still investigating how and why the teens took the car.
