VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Even though the temperatures are still on the cold side, don’t bother bringing your skates to Robson Square.
The ice rink has closed for the season.
Jordan Humphries, the General Manager of the rink, says there would be challenges to keeping the rink open into March, even though winter conditions continue.
Humphries says Vancouverites are not asking to have the rink open longer, and it costs too much to run.
“As you can imagine, there’s a lot of cost of operating an outdoor ice rink,” he says. “Staffing and ice plant considerations and ice maintenance and all that kind of thing.”
The ice rink, which closed on Feb. 28, had been open since the start of December.
