Delays expected as FortisBC continues gas line upgrades along Lougheed

BURNABY (NEWS 1130) – Commuters should prepare for traffic delays as work resumes to upgrade FortisBC’s gas lines.

Drivers should prepare for lane closures along Lougheed Highway and Broadway in Burnaby and on Como Lake Avenue in Coquitlam.

The stretch between Kengsinton and Bainbridge is the area commuters want to avoid starting Monday, with a lane closed both westbound and eastbound. And starting Tuesday, southbound lanes will be closed on Madison from Halifax Street at the Madison Avenue Lougheed intersection.

“You just gotta deal with the construction delays and if there are alternate routes try to take it but there’s [sic] no real other options,” one driver told NEWS 1130.

“Snail’s pace, you know, but you roll with the punches I guess,” said another driver Monday morning.

Work began last year in Vancouver and parts of Burnaby. The upgrades are expected to be completed by 2019.

“We understand it can be disruptive to have a major construction project in your neighbourhood, which is why our goal is to complete work safely and as quickly as possible,” said vice-president Doug Stout in a statement. “We want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding, both so far and as we complete construction this year.”
