Firefighters knock down small fire at apartment building by Cambie Street Bridge

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A small fire burning in the walls of a building on Spyglass Place, next to the Cambie Street Bridge, had residents waiting on the street Tuesday evening as firefighters worked.

No one was injured in the two alarm fire, though it was tough work for fire crews.

Assistant Fire Chief Dan Stroup says it broke out around 5:30 on Tuesday in a third-floor suite on Spyglass Place, near the Cambie Street Bridge.

“They found a fire in the wall, it traveled up into the roof line,” he said. “It took a while to get under control just because it was in the roof. The crews were able to knock it down and stop it from spreading.”

Stroup says it looks like most of the residents will be able to return to the building tonight, except for those in the unit where the fire is believed to have started.

Firefighters do not yet know what caused the fire.
