WEST VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — A taxi driver has been charged with sexually assaulting a passenger in West Vancouver in January.

60-year-old Deepak Sharma of Abbotsford has been charged, and made his first court appearance on March 6. He was asked to and has surrendered his taxi permit.

The victim told police they were waiting for a friend near the Lions Gate Bridge when the apparent assault happened. Police say the victim’s hand was put on a driver’s genitals, which were exposed through an open zipper. The victim and the friend went to the police after safely returning home.

Sharma made his appearance in court on March 6, and will be appearing again on March 20.
