Lower Mainland woman sexually assaulted on Vancouver Island in the middle of the night

SAANICH (NEWS 1130) – A woman from the Lower Mainland has been sexually assaulted on Vancouver Island.

Police in Saanich say the 22-year-old was in town to visit friends and was spending the night at a townhouse in the Gordon Head neighbourhood. The woman was sleeping when a man went into the home at around 2 a.m. on Sunday and attacked her at knifepoint.

Police say the man was a stranger to the woman. He’s been described as tall with short blond hair and an athletic build. He may have been wearing glasses at the time of the attack, but it’s unclear, as the lights were out in the home when the attack happened.

It’s possible the suspect knew the home wasn’t secure so while police don’t think the general public is in danger, they are reminding everyone to make sure their doors are locked and windows are secured.

The home is in an area known to be popular with University of Victoria students.

The victim is being supported by friends and other services.
