TV pilot season has arrived in Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The busy season for the movie industry is here, and there may be more film trucks and camera crews around Metro Vancouver for the next little while.

And despite one locally-shot show ending its run soon, the industry is not expected to slow down.

Vancouver-shot superhero series Arrow announced in March that it would be ending after the upcoming eighth season airs.

Prem Gill with Creative BC says that while it’s never ideal to lost a big production, Metro Vancouver is always a popular spot for camera crews.

“A lot of the studios, they like working here, so if they have options we’re usually on the top three list in North America as a location,” she says.” And then there’s Canadian series that want to get up and running and be placed here as well.”

She says it’s TV pilot season right now, and six or seven pilot are already filming in the area.

“The Metro Vancouver area, actually, all across the Lower Mainland is known as a really solid, reliable jurisdiction with great infrastructure and talent that can deliver great pilots,” Gill says.

And adding to that, she says, there are more platforms needing content every year, and larger, global audiences to consume them.
