NANAIMO (NEWS 1130) –┬áMounties in Nanaimo say they’ve arrested a man who was wanted for second-degree murder in Toronto, all because he wasn’t wearing a helmet while riding a bike.

RCMP say the 19-year-old was stopped on Friday for riding without a helmet. That’s when officers noticed the bike he was riding looked like one that had been reported stolen.

A check of the serial number confirmed it was the same one so police arrested the man for possession of stolen property.

After further investigation into who the man was, investigators determined he was a Toronto teen wanted in connection with a shooting in that city last month.

Kyle Dias is expected to be flown back to Ontario tomorrow, police say the bike helmet charge was never pursued.
