Poll: Support rises in all age groups for legal pot

LOS ANGELES — A growing majority of Americans say marijuana should be legal, and support for cannabis has climbed among all age groups.

That’s according to the 2018 data released Tuesday from a widely respected trends poll, the General Social Survey, that has been measuring support for legal marijuana since the 1970s.

It shows 61 per cent of Americans favour legalization, up from 57 per cent two years ago.

An analysis by The AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research and the General Social Survey staff finds that support for legalization is strongest among 18-to-34-year-olds. Nearly 75 per centfavour legal pot.

Older Americans are taking a more favourable view, too. Forty-six per cent of those 65 and older say marijuana should be legal, up from 42 per cent in 2016.
