Trump will nominate a lawyer as US ambassador to Mexico

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump will nominate the constitutional and appellate attorney Christopher Landau to be U.S. ambassador to Mexico.

Tuesday’s White House announcement says that Landau was a law clerk for U.S. Supreme Court Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas.

The U.S. hasn’t had an ambassador in Mexico City since Roberta Jacobson stepped down in May 2018. Jacobson was the first female U.S. ambassador to Mexico.

Mirtha Barcena in January became the first female Mexican ambassador to Washington, representing the government of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.
