ELLENSBURG, Wash. — The Latest on shooting that killed a Washington state sheriff’s deputy (all times local):

Authorities have identified a Washington state sheriff’s deputy who was killed and police officer who was wounded in a shootout during an attempted traffic stop.

Authorities said Wednesday that Kittitas County sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Thompson was killed near the central city of Ellensburg. The 42-year-old was married with three children.

Kittitas police Officer Benito Chavez was shot in the leg and underwent surgery at a Seattle hospital. Officials say the 22-year-old is married and his wife is pregnant.

The suspect was shot and later died at a hospital. His identity hasn’t been released.

Ellensburg Police Chief Ken Wade says the officers were responding to reports of a road rage incident when they were shot.

A sheriff’s deputy was killed and a police officer was injured after an exchange of gunfire during an attempted traffic stop near the central Washington city of Ellensburg.

Ellensburg Police Capt. Dan Hansberry said Wednesday that the suspect died at a hospital.

The Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office says in a statement that deputies Tuesday night tried to stop a vehicle related to a driving complaint.

The suspect fled, prompting a police pursuit.

The statement says the vehicle came to a stop and the suspect exited and exchanged gunfire with the sheriff’s deputy and a police officer from the town of Kittitas. The deputy was fatally shot.

The officer was wounded and airlifted to a Seattle hospital.

The names of the officers and suspect have not been made public.
