Vancouver man accused of spitting on woman in wheelchair and 3 others charged

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A man accused of spitting in the face of a 19-year-old woman in a wheelchair has been charged with assault.

The 28-year-old was arrested in relation to a spitting assault spree that took place Sunday morning.

Police say the woman was near Granville Street and West Georgia when she was spit in the face. Later on, video surveillance shows an elderly man being spat on the chest and two women also being spat on.

“This is quite disturbing for us as well and quite concerning,” said Sgt. Jason Robillard. “That’s why we would like to ask for additional victims, we believe there to be at least three in that area and this all happened within a minute of the first one.”

He says the motive is still unknown.

Police say only the 19-year-old has come forward but they would like to speak to the other victims.

“Looking at it as being a random, unprovoked attack, these are troubling to us. Spitting at somebody else is assault,” Robillard said.

Daniel Bielewcz is known to police, Robillard added, noting he remains in custody.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
