MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS 1130) – The BC SPCA have seized a five-month-old puppy after witnesses saw the dog get hit by a car twice, but was left in the backyard without treatment.

Concerned neighbours called the SPCA after they saw the puppy, known as ‘Cozzy,’ had not been taken to the vet days after being injured.

“The X-rays are horrible,” said Maple Ridge branch manager Krista Shaw. “You can see how bad the break is and it was left untreated for over a week.”

Staff say Cozzy came in with road rash as well as soft tissue damage. X-rays showed the dog had a broken right femur and needed surgery.

“This friendly but timid dog’s total medical care cost is about $4,103.”

The dog is now recovering at a foster home but will need hydrotherapy to recover.

The BC SPCA is asking for donations to help cover Cozzy’s medical expenses.
