How the Expos can finally return to Montreal

Fans wear Montreal Expos uniforms as they watch the Toronto Blue Jays in a pre-season baseball game against the New York Mets Friday, March 28, 2014 in Montreal. For a long time, it was a pipe dream. Then it was a faint hope. And now, fifteen years after their final game, the Expos returning to Montreal increasingly feels inevitable. How did this happen? What had to change in the city, the sport and the business world to make it a possibility?

Jeff Blair covered the Expos for more than a decade and knows the story of the team’s departure, and the saga of their pending return, better than anyone else. He explains how the stars are aligning, why baseball matters so much in the city and tells us the story of the Expos diaspora—the fans of the “ghost team” who never gave up hope for a comeback.
