Canadians warned about UK travel due to ‘threat of terrorism’

LONDON (NEWS 1130) – Canadians travelling to the United Kingdom are being advised to exercise a “high degree of caution” due to the “threat of terrorism.”

The warning follows concerns over what could happen after British lawmakers rejected the government’s divorce deal with the European Union for a third time on Friday. Thousands of Brexit supporters are outside Westminster and there are fears of violence following the vote.

Friday was the day the United Kingdom was supposed to leave the EU following a referendum but politicians have so far been unable to agree on the details.

“We take the safety and security of Canadians abroad very seriously and provide credible and timely information in our Travel Advice to enable you to make well-informed decisions regarding your travel abroad,” reads a statement from the government.

In a tweet, it warns acts of violence and confrontations are possible.

“Avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place and nearby underground stations,” read a Tweet from Travel and Tourism Canada.
