VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Is the movie theatre closing? That’s the main concern we’ve been hearing from people who spend a lot of time at Vancouver’s International Village, which is now for sale.
It’s been 20 years since the shopping centre at the edge of Chinatown opened with promises of being a draw for luxury stores. But many retail spaces inside the former Tinseltown are now dark.
The main anchor remains the Cineplex theatre for frequent movie-goers like Matt and Adrian.
“As long as the theatre stays, no one’s going to be too upset,” said Matt, who catches movies there on a regular basis.
“If they keep the theatre here, I’m happy because I think that’s the number one thing people come here for,” said Adrian. “That’s the only reason I ever come here.”
The complex at the corner of Keefer and Abbott Streets is currently owned by Hong Kong – based Henderson Land Development.
The sale is part of a package, which includes a building across the street that’s home to a T&T Supermarket and Coquitlam’s Henderson Place Mall.
