Today is Vancouver’s 133rd birthday

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Happy 133rd birthday to the city that doesn’t look a day over 125.
Vancouver officially incorporated as a city on this day in 1886, although as seen by some photos from the Vancouver Public Space Network, the city looks just a bit different.
Especially because not long after the city was incorporated, the great fire destroyed most of town.
People have, of course, lived here for much longer. The area was previously a settlement and gathering place and, even before that, Indigenous peoples have lived on the land since time immemorial.
But April 6 was the day the provincial legislature responded to a petition asking for the city to be incorporated.
The City of Vancouver made it official at a council meeting last month.
