BURNABY (NEWS 1130) – Power has been restored to about 10,000 customers after they were left in the dark Monday afternoon due to a massive outage in parts of Burnaby and East Vancouver.
BC Hydro blamed the outage on a substation problem.
Due to the outages, BCIT cancelled all daytime classes and exams at its Burnaby and CARI campuses. Evening classes were not cancelled.
Power is now restored across much of the Burnaby and CARI campuses. Evening/part-time classes will proceed as scheduled. Daytime classes continue to be cancelled.

The outages were in pockets, with most of the area north of Highway 1 and west of Burnaby Lake.
NEWS 1130 will continue to monitor the situation in traffic and weather on the ones.
