Facebook bans Faith Goldy in latest crackdown on extremist content

White nationalist Faith Goldy has been banned from Facebook as the company continues to crack down on extremist content and organized hate groups.
Goldy, who ran for mayor of Toronto in the last municipal election, has built up an online following based on her controversial views that have been described as white supremacist in nature.
“Individuals and organizations who spread hate, attack, or call for the exclusion of others on the basis of who they are have no place our services,” a Facebook spokesperson explained in a statement on Monday.
“That’s why we have a policy on dangerous individuals and organizations, which states that we do not allow those who are engaged in offline ‘organized hate’ to have a presence on our services. The individuals and organizations we have banned today violate this policy, and they will no longer be allowed a presence on our services. Our work against organized hate is on-going and we will continue to review individuals, Pages, groups and content against our Community Standards.”
Not only will Goldy’s personal Facebook be removed but liked pages and groups affiliated with her will also be removed. She will also be banned from Instagram, which Facebook purchased in 2012.
“Our enemies are weak & terrified,” Goldy tweeted in response to the ban.
“They forget most revolutions were waged before social media!”
Facebook also banned the Canadian Nationalist Front, along with its leader Kevin Goudreau, Aryan Strikeforce, Wolves of Odin and the Soldiers of Odin.
The social media giant took down almost three-million hate speech posts at the end of 2018.
