Crews fight fires in Surrey, Vancouver

METRO VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Crews in Surrey battled flames from a vehicle fire which appears to have been at an auto wrecking yard in the area of Scott and Tannery roads.

The fire made a mess of the morning commute for people who use the Pattullo Bridge, which is nearby.

“It’s at the very back of this auto wrecking yard, it’s at the far back end,” Darren Grieve said from the NEWS 1130 Air Patrol. “Almost right along the fence line of this yard.”

There’s no word on what caused this fire, but crews were forced to run a water line along Scott Road.

The fire blocked Scott Road near the bottom of the hill for some time.

Meantime, at least seven people have been forced from their home in East Vancouver after a fire broke out early Wednesday morning.

“Crews got here quickly, proceeded to extinguish,” Acting Battalion Chief Mike Sereda says.

The home is on East 12th Avenue near Glen Street and Emergency Social Services has been called in to help find the residents accommodation.

Sereda says no injuries have been reported. It’s unclear what sparked the flames, or how extensive the damage to the home is.
