Sun Run returns to Vancouver this weekend

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – You may want to to avoid the downtown core and the area around Stanley Park if you’re not into crowds and road closures on Sunday.

The Vancouver Sun Run is taking over the streets, with up to 40,000 people expected to take part in the 10K run.

Runners will start pounding the pavement around 9:00 a.m., but area road closures start four hours earlier.

The race snakes its way around the downtown core starting at Georgia and Burrard streets, before ending in front of B.C. Place.

The Vancouver Sun Run is the country’s largest 10K road race, and is the 3rd largest timed 10K in the world, according to the event’s website.

The first Sun Run was held in 1985.
