ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) – Thick black smoke could be seen filling the night sky in a part of Abbotsford Friday night after a house fire broke out.

Assistant Fire Chief Craig Leighton says it happened at around 10 p.m., at a small house on some farmland on Sumas Way, but no one was home at the time.

“Crews made an aggressive interior and exterior attack and knocked the fire down quickly,” he says. “No injuries to civilians, no injuries to our fire personnel.”

No one was at home at the time, he says, but the house was badly damaged.

“The home was badly damaged and will not be inhabitable until renovations and repairs are made,” Leighton adds.
