One dead after shooting in Kitsilano

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A shooting in Kitsilano has left one man dead in what police are saying was a targeted shooting Tuesday evening.

Investigators took to the area near West 4th Avenue and Burrard Street, with witnesses telling NEWS 1130 they heard multiple gunshots. Police say a male victim died at the scene. No arrests have been made.

The scene between an eatery and a high-end car dealership on Burrard Street remained taped off Wednesday morning, with police still present several hours after shots first rang out.

“[There was] a white Beamer that had, like, six bullet holes in it. It was intense,” a woman who lives above the restaurant told NEWS 1130. “I didn’t have a good view — I think they tried to block it because there was a lot of blood, and probably the body was still there. So by the time I got upstairs, they started putting the tarps over so I didn’t see anything.”

That car has since been towed away, but the woman believes she’s seen it outside the restaurant more than once before.

Another person, who declined to provide her name, said she was at a gas station a few blocks away when the shooting happened.

“I was pumping gas and heard about six gunshots,” she said. “They were clearly gunshots.” She says police cars went by shortly after.

Other witnesses said they saw a car with a tarp over the driver’s side in an alley south of 4th Avenue, and confirmed they’d also heard gunshots.

“Then I started hearing sirens,” a man who lives nearby said. “So I came down, and I saw a dead body over the steering wheel.”

Burrard was shut down for hours on Tuesday evening, with police having asked drivers to avoid the area.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the VPD’s Major Crime Section at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
