Langley boy’s family hopes to make his final wish to meet Disney heroes come true

LANGLEY (NEWS 1130) – It’s been a rough last few years for eight-year-old Caleb McLean, who has been dealing with an aggressive form of cancer in his brain and spine.

The Langley boy’s battle has taken a devastating turn, as doctors have recently told him he has just months to live.

When his family asked him about any wishes he had, his aunt Faith Annan says the youngster wants to go on a Disney cruise with his mom, dad, and his five siblings.

“He loves Pokemon, Lego…he loves Disney, especially because of the singing, and Marvel…like, he loves superheroes.”

Annan says Caleb has been through so much, and he’s inspired her to try and make his dream a reality.

“Honestly, anybody who knows Caleb can tell you, he’s funny. Even [with] everything that he’s going through, he still makes everybody laugh.”

The family was initially able to connect with the B.C./Yukon chapter of Make-a-Wish, and the non-profit told them they’d be able to send Caleb, his mom and one of his siblings on the cruise.

Annan understands that the not-for-profit is under budget constraints, and says there’s no ill-will, but they also want Caleb to be able to enjoy the cruise with both parents and the rest of his siblings by his side.

Make-a-Wish’s Stuart Chase says the charity is sympathetic to the family’s plight, but says there are some financial limitations on what they are able to do.

“We don’t have any government funding. We’re always looking for donations. The more money we have in our account, the more wishes we can grant.”

Stuart says the foundation believes a family is a big part of a child’s wish.

“In the case of being able to send a family of eight on a Disney cruise, it’s tough for us.”

Annan says the cruise will cost about $45,000, and she’s hoping the GoFundMe she’s set up will get Caleb on a cruise as soon as possible.
