Will the end of the Easter long weekend mean another traffic mess?

METRO VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Will it be an easy return home to Metro Vancouver or a repeat of Good Friday’s attempted exodus?

Extra BC Ferries sailings have been added, with the corporation expecting the Easter Monday rush to peak this afternoon.

“We are expecting this afternoon to be pretty busy for us right across our major routes,” adds Astrid Braunschmidt with BC Ferries. “We’re advising our customers to give themselves lots of extra time as they come the terminals.”

It was a mess three days ago, no matter how you were trying to get out of town.

Border waits were up to three hours. There were also several BC Ferries sailing waits.

At one point Friday morning, there were four sailing waits on trips from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay. Traffic heading towards to the terminals was also severely backed up.

“We have extra traffic control on today and in fact, we have extra staff right across our operations to help people get to their destinations,” Braunschmidt adds.

Plus, flooding on Highway 1 meant gridlock east of Chilliwack.
