VPD looking for footage of vehicle linked to deadly Kitsilano shooting

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Police are hoping dash-cam footage of an SUV linked to a deadly shooting in Vancouver’s Kitsilano neighbourhood will help them find the person responsible.

Manoj Kumar, 30, was shot and killed Tuesday night while he was sitting in a car near W. 4th Ave. and Burrard Street.

Police haven’t identified a motive for the killing. The victim wasn’t known to police and investigators have said they don’t have any reason to suspect he was involved in crime. However, they do believe it was a targeted hit.

“We’re not ruling anything out,” Const. Jason Doucette said on Wednesday. “It just appears to have all the hallmarks of a targeted shooting. We’ve got one vehicle in a busy area, we’ve got one person in a vehicle, we’ve got a number of shots that have been fired directly into that vehicle, so that leads us to believe that it’s targeted.”

No arrests have been made.

Kumar was shot to death at around 8:30 p.m. Hours later, a white Dodge Durango was found burned out near W. 22nd Ave. and Yew St.

That vehicle is described as having an “older-style roof rack.” It was spotted on a surveillance camera.

If you have any dash-cam footage — specifically if you were driving in the Kitsilano and Arbutus areas — between 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Tuesday evening, or if you have any other information about the incident, you’re asked to call the Vancouver Police Homicide Unit at 604-717-2500, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.

“We are asking anyone with dash-cam to contact the VPD Homicide Unit as soon as possible as the video could be overwritten”, VPD Sgt. Jason Robillard said. “Even the smallest piece of information can be crucial to the investigation.”
