Man seriously hurt, dog killed in Champlain Heights fire

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — A man is fighting for his life and a dog is dead after a fire in Champlain Heights.

The fire took place in an older townhouse near Blake street and Champlain crescent just after 7pm.

According to the Vancouver fire department, man who was around 30 years old, was pulled from the basement of the townhouse and needed assistance breathing.

Firefighters had trouble removing him from the unit because of his size.

The dog was found dead on the second floor of the building.

Stairs in the building were burned, but the fire was contained to the suite.

It’s not yet clear how the fire started.
