Memorial service to be held today for victim of Salmon Arm shooting

SALMON ARM (NEWS 1130) – A memorial service will be held today for a 78-year-old former foster father who was shot during church services in Salmon Arm.
Gord Parmenter was shot dead on April 14 when a man entered the Salmon Arm Church of Christ during service and opened fire. A second man was seriously injured.

Parmenter will be honoured at a service at the Salmon Recreation Centre Saturday. He has been remembered as a church elder, a volunteer and a foster parent. His death has rattled the B.C. Interior town and left questions about the suspect and the motive for the shooting.
A 25-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder, aggravated assault and disguising his face while committing an offence. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 7.
